Midyear Increase to 2026 Standard Mileage Rate
The IRS has announced a midyear increase to the standard mileage allowance, which is effective on July 1, 2026.
For business travel, it is 76 cents per mile for July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. This is up from 72.5 cents per mile, which applies for January 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
For medical-related travel, it is $23.5 cents per mile, for July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. This is up from 20.5 cents per mile, which applies for January 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
As a result of this change, two rates per mile will be used to compute the travel deduction for the 2026 tax year, with the lower amount applying to the first half of the year and the higher rate applying for the second half of the year.
The rate for charitable use of an automobile is not subject to adjustment, and it remains 14 cents per mile.
